The Doberman standard is energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, and obedient. They have a compact and muscular frame for great endurance and speed, allowing for various activities and high performance in sporting events. Their sharp minds and quick wit make them highly trainable, excelling in various tasks. Beneath their powerful exterior lies a devoted companion, fiercely loyal to their family. Along with an elegant appearance reflecting high nobility and temperament, they are named "Velcro" dogs for a reason and need lots of physical and mental stimulation daily. These are highly active dogs that need regular exercise, so please make sure you are prepared to provide this physical and mental stimulation daily before considering owning a Doberman. This does not just mean throwing your dog out in a yard to get their daily exercise; they love their people and want to do tasks for you and with you. Dobermans have been proven to be successful in a variety of events to include conformation, search and rescue, agility, barn hunt, dock diving, flyball, nose work, obedience/rally, tracking, working dog sport, and Schutzhund.
